I don’t think I will ever be able to summarise my journey at UWC and it was definitely a wild one; There are things along the way that I would like to share with other people. UWC has taught me so many different things that are worth sharing and things that transformed the way I see the world and provided me with a variety of life skills.
First, UWC has taught me that from the nature of humankind people change. The tendency to try and hang up on certain characteristics is wrong and just keep you from exploring your true self. I realised that as social creatures we need to give ourselves the opportunity to grow and change as well as to other people. Changes are not necessarily signs of hypocrisy and sometimes they are nothing but positive. Therefore, give yourself and others the opportunity to evolve and grow and take changes as an opportunity to learn from others and share your own experiences. Changes can give you an opportunity to grow together rather than apart.
Another thing I am going to take with me from my UWC time is the "yes approach". The yes approach basically means that we should try and say yes to every opportunity or event that comes in your way. I have realised that the most beautiful moments are unexpected and spontaneous and you can never be too tired, too stressed or too distracted for a great conversation about nothing and everything at the same time with an old friend or a new one you just found. Do not miss opportunities to meet new people, interact, explore places and undergo adventures. All of these are just going to make your overall experience richer and more exciting.
In relation to the yes approach I also learnt that pushing myself out of my comfort zone is the best gift I could possibly give my self. There were so many different situations in the passed year and a half that weren’t necessarily situations I would picture my self in, but handling all those times made me learn a lot about my self and my abilities that I tend to underestimate.
Obviously things in this school aren’t necessarily only pink and shiny and there were a lot of difficult times along the way. Being surrounded by people 24/7 can get quite challenging. It was a great opportunity for me to learn about the type of people I want to be around, the type of people that makes me happy and the type of people that anger me. This experience require you to observe yourself quite often and examine your means. An important things I realised about disagreement with other people is that the moments I get angry the most is when I see something I do not like about my self in someone else’s behaviour. And this understanding helped me a lot and improved many friendship I have. Your friends are the best reflective mirror you could ever have and they are the best critics you will ever have.
I think looking at my UWC experience so far it was mostly a process of taking down and building up again. It is this kind of place that pushes you to your edges and provide you with so many confrontations with hard questions and situations. I feel like different stages in this process required me to revaluate my life choices and decisions and think many things through like I have never done before. It is not like I was not a thinking person before, is just that UWC forced me to reflect constantly and think deeper to a whole new level.
Saying I’m grateful for this opportunity is an understatement as I am way more than that. I am thankful and filled with so many great memories that will stay with me with to many more years to come. This experience is obviously not over yet but it has taught me a lot so far and I could never regret the decision to come to UWC.
So even though it was not suppose to be a summary I would just end up and say thank you to all the people that took part with me in this journey whether if it is in Israel or Singapore. You made me who I am and I cannot thank you enough. I’ve been very privileged and fortunate to have all those opportunities and all I can do is try my best to provide such opportunities to other people that were not as lucky as I was. So here is to many more happy memories, great people and funny everyday moments. I want to wish all of was the feeling of fulfilment and happiness. May the next 3 months in Singapore will be greater than ever and that my return back home will go as smooth as possible. I am sad to leave Singapore but I know that other great adventures are waiting for me just around the corner.
Until next time,
Cleel
P.S —> Singapore, thank you for being my home for two years. You have never disappointed me. You will always have a special place in my heart.
